The documents and materials here tell of Semko Sawczyuk, who saved a co-worker, MacNeil, from being caught in a revolving shaft at the steel plant. Sawczyuk died, due to the injuries he sustained. He was awarded a Carnegie Medal and other honours for his heroism. His wife, Domka Sawczyuk, was granted a pecuniary award to help with the costs of raising her children.
